
BY JEREMY SCHNEIDER | MIRROR SPORTS — Cameron Wilgus placed third with two wins and Tommy Gast, T.J. Lewis and Liam Murphy each won one match to lead the Maumee wrestling team at last Saturday’s Bill Urban Memorial Tournament hosted by St. John’s Jesuit.
Wilgus took home third place at 157 pounds with wins over Zack Mitchell of Northview (2-0) and Brayden Sartor of Sandusky with a pin only 39 seconds into the match.
Gast won a 5-2 decision over Delta’s Landon Lintermoot in the 126-pound weight class. Lewis beat Northview’s Raymond Garcia with a pin at 2:36. Murphy topped Northview’s Jackson Bollin with a pin at 5:30.
Junior Varsity
Jaryn Millin won three matches and Peyton Wegman won twice as the Panthers junior varsity team wrestled at the Whitmer JV Invitational on Saturday.
The Panthers finished 15th out of 22 teams.
Millin won three straight matches in the consolation bracket, beating teammate Alexander Dolder by fall at 23 seconds; topping Doug Kaiser of Anthony Wayne by pin at 3:40; and Napoleon’s Lathan Shank by pin at 2:35. He lost the third-place match.
Wegman beat Dekyris Young of Waite by pin at 1:26 in the championship round before falling in the quarterfinals by decision. He beat teammate Kamari Braswell 13-1 in the consolation round before losing in the next match by fall.
Braswell, Liam Kennedy, T.J. Rank, Bryson Bonds, Jayden Gordon, Jack Lake and Josiah Millin all won one match each for the Panthers.
