BY NANCY GAGNET | MIRROR REPORTER — Nobody plans to get into a car accident or receive the unexpected news about a serious medical condition. Unfortunately, those difficult circumstances happen to people every day.

Making sure that the very best insurance plan is in place to navigate not only the unexpected, but also routine situations, is something HealthMarkets can do.

With an office now open in uptown Maumee, the agents from HealthMarkets can create an insurance plan to meet just about any need. From individual health insurance plans to subsidy-eligible plans, small group, the Affordable Care Act or Medicare for seniors, disabled, veterans or those individuals who are self-employed, the agents at HealthMarkets design plans specific to their clients’ needs on a budget they can afford.

“Whether it be health, life, supplemental, disability, asset protection or Medicare, there is a solution,” said Kelly Parton, Independent Insurance Agent with HealthMarkets.

HealthMarkets is a brokerage firm with access to over 200 carriers across the country. Parton and his team at HealthMarkets in Maumee – Jim Pool, Kyeshna Jansen and Shelby Parton – are passionate about helping their clients. In this area, the carriers offered for individuals on Medicare include United Health Care, Centene, Humana, Aetna, Anthem and Medical Mutual. For those individuals under age 65, there are five insurance companies in Lucas County that fall under the Affordable Care Act. Since open enrollment for Medicare takes place from October 15 to December 7; and enrollment in individual health plans for those under age 65 takes place from November 7 to December 15, now is the perfect time for a one-on-one consultation, Parton said.

“We try to educate people on all the options available in the market so they can make the best choice for them and their family,” he said.

While agents work with a variety of individuals from a variety of backgrounds, HealthMarkets in Maumee is especially attuned to the insurance needs of military families and emergency personnel including police and fire, he said.

“That’s our soft spot,” said Parton. “Veterans and first responders are the backbone of our country and many need assistance, especially with going to the VA (Veterans Affairs). Many don’t have a Medicare plan that is supplemental to the VA, but if they get a Medicare plan through a private carrier, they have many more options,” he said.

Being in network, having supplemental insurance for emergency situations and not being over-insured are just a few of the ways that the agents at HealthMarkets also help clients stay on track when it comes to picking the best insurance options.

“I love helping people with this, I love fixing the problem,” said Parton. “I am analytical in nature and I love the complex case that comes in. Since I don’t like seeing someone with a worried look on their face, I like to help them and watch them leave with a smile. I like seeing someone walk out of here with a solution. It gives them peace of mind.”

HealthMarkets is located at 302 Conant St. in Maumee and walk-ins are welcome.
