Eric Board Posts Personal Best While Leading Maumee At Tiffin Carnival

BY ANDY ROWER | MIRROR SPORTS — Maumee’s boys cross country team bettered 17 other teams in the Division II race of the Tiffin Carnival at Hedges Boyer Park on September 7. Sophomore Eric Board posted his personal-best time of 16:55 while leading the Panthers and bettering 295 other opponents with a 37th-place time of 16:55. Junior Ethan Chambers (124th) and sophomore Nick Johnstone (161st) also placed in the race’s upper half with times of 18:09 and 18:33 and freshmen Ayden McCarthy and Chaz Wilms recorded season-best times with a 19:43 and a 20:07. Shelby’s Caleb Brown took top individual honors with a blistering time of 14:56. Sophomore Robbie Stevens and freshman Alex Stambaugh rounded out the Panthers’ varsity race with times of 20:53 and 22:10, respectively. Freshman Caden Leck paced Maumee in the day’s open race with a personal-record time of 22:01. Freshman Dru Albright (23:34), sophomore Tylar Menning (24:32) and freshmen Kierce Gonzalez (25:37) and Gavin Bekker (26:07) also competed for the Panthers. Girls Maumee’s girls team bettered three other teams in the Division II-A race. Sophomore Sydney King led the Panthers by placing 100th with a time of 22:54, and junior Abi Smalley and freshman Claire Farthing both followed up with identical times of 23:40. Sophomores Camryn O’Shea and Keragan McConaughey next turned in times of 24:16 and 24:30 and junior Lexi Szyndler ran a season-best time of 26:34. Buckeye Valley’s Chloe Dawson won the race with a time of 18:11. Maumee will next compete at Dave’s Invitational at the Ottawa Park Golf Course on Saturday at 1:15 p.m.
