
BY JEREMY SCHNEIDER | MIRROR SPORTS — Fifty-five teams from Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Wisconsin converged on Defiance last week for the Tri-State Border War wrestling tournament.
Maumee scored 19 points to finish 50th in the team standings.
Tommy Gast and Tristen Dotson led the way for the Panthers, both winning multiple matches in their weight classes. Kamari Braswell also won a match.
Dotson scored nine points to pace the Panthers with three wins, including an injury default in the consolation round. He won by major decision over Andrew White of Bowling Green, 11-3, and then he pinned Evergreen’s Trevor Johnson two minutes, 52 seconds into their match.
Gast scored eight points with two wins. He beat Charlie Dixon of Berkshire, 14-5, in a major decision in the championship round. Gast then pinned Joey Meggitt of Sandusky Perkins at the 2:01 mark of their consolation round match.
Braswell added two team points with a win. He beat Corbin Gardner of Eastside, Ind., 6-2 in the consolation bracket.
Only six Maumee wrestlers appeared in the brackets, with Bryson Bonds-Crawford, Liam Kennedy and Dishon McCullough also competing.
