Burton Brothers Lead Maumee To 2-0 Start

BY ANDY ROWER | MIRROR SPORTS — Maumee’s bowling team is off to a hot 2-0 start after playing to wins over Napoleon and Perrysburg during the first week of the season. Maumee 2,458, Perrysburg 2,270 The latest Panthers victory came over the Yellow Jackets at Timbers Bowling Lanes on December 14. Maumee senior Alex Burton led the way with a two-game series of 503 (245-258). His 258 was the Northern Lakes League’s high game of the week and his series also topped all other bowlers. Junior Sam Burton followed with a 401 (220-181), posting the third best series of the week and fourth highest game. Senior Keaton Beaverson next bowled a 376 (177-199) while recording the sixth highest series and seventh best game of the week. The remaining three Panthers scores came in one-game performances, as sophomore Roby Fairchild bowled a 186, senior Cole Imm followed with a 180 and senior Chris Becker chipped in a 159. Gage Wojcik paced the Yellow Jackets with a 382 (190-192), Drake Halett next notched a 379 (226-153), Carson Flynn added a 339 (181-158), Nicholas Duncan had a 317 (171-146) and Jared Carr contributed a 314 (163-151). Perrysburg took the three-game Baker series with a 539-485 win over Maumee. Maumee 2,073, Napoleon 2,056 The Panthers opened their 2017-18 season with a close win over the Wildcats at River City Bowl-A-Way on December 11. This time around, Sam Burton led Maumee with a 368 (158-210). Both his 210 and series proved to be the fourth best of the week. Alex Burton next rolled a 353 (227-126) and in doing so posted the second highest game and series of the week. Beaverson also topped the 300 mark with a 322 (148-174) and Becker tacked on a 288 (149-174). Additionally, Fairchild posted a one-round score of 123 and Sam Stainbrook ended up with a 111. Evan Horner paced Napoleon with a 416 (233-183), Wesley Babcock followed at 307 (137-170), Bryce Trapp notched a 288 (143-145) and Levi Anderson posted a 268 (107-161). The Wildcats also got a 149 from Andrew Case and a 124 from Anthony Steward. Maumee edged Napoleon in the Baker games, 508-504. Season Statistics The Panthers have now topped all teams with their 2,458 team match score and have posted the top two team game scores of 1,004 and 969. Alex (214) and Sam (196) Burton rank as Nos. 2 and 5 in the individual high average category. Alex Burton has also recorded the top two individual games (258, 245) and best individual series score (503), while Sam Burton has the fifth best individual series score (401).
