Bissell Pet Foundation Brings Holiday Hope To Shelter Pets Across The Country

Bissell Pet Foundation is bringing hope to shelter pets across the country this holiday season with its “Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope” adoption event.

During each nationwide event, Bissell Pet Foundation sponsors reduced adoption fees of $25.00 for adult cats and adult dogs at least 6 months old. This event will be hosted in more than 200 shelters in 40 states, including the Toledo Humane Society (THS).

THS will be participating through Sunday, December 19.

The Toledo Humane Society at 827 Illinois Ave., Maumee, is open from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and from noon to 5:00 p.m. on the weekends.

Puppies and kittens under 6 months of age are not included in this event special; however, THS will still honor its “adopt one, get one free” adoption promotion on kittens throughout the event.

Twenty-four-hour holds on available animals will not be permitted for the duration of the adoption event.

All interested adopters can find more details on animals online at toledohumane.org/adopt.

The “Empty the Shelters” event began in 2016 as an effort to encourage more families to adopt a pet into their homes. Nearly 68,000 pets have found adoptive homes through this reduced-fee adoption event. Since its inception, Bissell Pet Foundation has expanded its “Empty the Shelters” reach to organizations in 45 states and Canada, partnering with a total of 443 animal welfare organizations.

“Shelters are overcrowded and in desperate need of support due to slowed adoption rates and increased length of stay for pets,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of Bissell Pet Foundation. “With so many people seeking to add pets to their family around this time of year, our ‘Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope’ event is the perfect opportunity to make a difference in your community by saving a life and creating space to give another homeless pet a chance.”

According to Alexandra Patterson, marketing and events coordinator and former animal care technician at the Toledo Humane Society, “The ‘Empty the Shelters’ adoption event is always a fun and engaging way to help the Toledo community find their new furry family member. The generosity of the Bissell Pet Foundation helps us find these forever homes through these events that they host several times throughout the year. We cannot be any more thankful to have this opportunity to partner with them as (we) find these animals loving homes that they so deserve and really hope the community takes this time to come fall in love with their next best friend!”

If you can’t commit to adopting an animal but have some time during the holidays to provide refuge to an animal in need, please check out the Toledo Humane Society’s “Home for the Holidays” foster event, in which you provide love and shelter to an animal over the holidays while THS provides all of the supplies you’ll need.
