AW Swim & Dive Team Advances Athletes To Districts

BY JOEL SENSENIG | MIRROR SPORTS — The Anthony Wayne swimming and diving team had a number of athletes advance to district competition after competing in sectionals at Fremont Ross High School Natatorium last Saturday. The Division I Northwest Ohio sectionals took place in Fremont and Lakewood, with the top 24 relay teams and 32 individuals per event qualifying for districts.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Agnes Bahr, Abby Gardner, Sam Glowacki and Cait Grubbs finished 14th in 1:58.21, while the 200 free relay team of Sucheck, Grubbs, Gardner and Piper Howard finished 20th (1:51:03). The 400 free relay team of Bahr, Lily Hunter, Sucheck and Glowacki also qualified for districts, finishing 15th in 3:54.61. Bahr placed third in the 200 individual medley (2:14.75), while Grubbs was 14th in the 50 free (25.69). Grubbs also qualified for districts in the 100 free, finishing 29th in 57.71. Hunter (25th, 5:42.00) and Sucheck (30th, 5:43.87) both qualified in the 500 free. Bahr (ninth, 1:01.36) and Hunter (31st, 1:05.96) both advanced in the 100 backstroke. With no sectional diving competition, Grace Ellis will be moving on to districts as well.

Will LaMastus broke his own school record in the 100 backstroke, finishing 24th in 58.93 to qualify for districts. The 200 medley relay team of Will and Wade LaMastus, Sterling Ebel and Liam McGuckin finished 14th in 1:58.21. The 400 free relay team of Will and Wade LaMastus, Josh Ellis and Nick Celestino was 24th (3:43.07). Will LaMastus placed 28th in the 200 individual medley (2:12.68).
