AW Hockey Defeats Whitmer, NW Eagles

BY JOEL SENSENIG | MIRROR SPORTS — The Anthony Wayne hockey team upped its overall record to 17-9 last weekend with wins over Whitmer and the Northwest Eagles. Sophomore Drew Seals had a hat trick, while senior Brad Hood and sophomores Logan Schuster and Jesse Rose each scored twice in AW’s rout of Whitmer at the Ice House on February 2. Freshman Cole Dorner and sophomore Joel Semancik also scored for the Generals, who dominated Whitmer all game long. Freshman Zack Conrad finished with four assists, while Seals and Semancik each had two and Rose, senior Jack Wyper, junior Zach Zielinski and sophomores Kyle Hendrix and Zach Knapp each had one. Junior goalie Sam Thomas made seven saves on 48 Whitmer shots. The next night, Anthony Wayne defeated the Northwest Eagles by a score of 3-1 at Bowling Green State University’s Slater Family Ice Arena. Hood, Semancik and Conrad each scored a goal for the Generals, while senior Zach Owens and Semancik each dished out two assists and Hood and Knapp each had one. Thomas made 22 saves on 29 shots in the game. AW, in first place in the Northwest Hockey Confer-ence’s National Division at 9-1, finishes its regular season this weekend. The Generals will face fourth-place Perrysburg (7-3 in the division) at 8:00 p.m. on Friday at BGSU and will host Senior Night at 7:30 p.m. the following night versus Clay (third place, 7-3-1) at Tam-O-Shanter.
