June Ferguson
June Evelyn Ferguson, age 77, of Waterville, died on Friday, August 13.
Born in England on March 23, 1933, to Alfred and Mary (McQuillan) Deering, she married James Ferguson of Risingsun, Ohio on June 27, 1953 in New Malden, Surrey, England. He preceded her in death in 2002. She was also predeceased by her parents and her only sibling, Leonard Deering.
Surviving are her children, Patricia Salsbury, of North Little Rock, Ark., Mary Malsbury, of Waterville, James (Joyce) Ferguson, of Toledo, Melinda (Bruce) Nast, of Ypsilanti, and Michael (Marianne) Ferguson, of Litchfield, Ohio; grandchildren, Deering, Emily, David, Andrea, Bradley, Natalie and Melanie; and great-granddaughter, Ava.
A memorial service will take place at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 28 at the Peinert Funeral Home in Waterville, with Father Paul Board of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Maumee officiating. The family will receive visitors starting at 2:00 p.m. A wake, immediately following the service, will be at Zion Lutheran Church in Waterville. Paul Lindsay
Paul Richard Lindsay, age 87, of Waterville, died on Tuesday, August 17.
Born in Toledo on December 9, 1922, to Bert and Ruth (Doer) Lindsay, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1943-45. He worked as a furniture refinisher for the Lion Store, retiring after 20 years in 1981. He and his wife Yvonne retired and moved to Avon Park, Fla., where he lived for 20 years before returning to Waterville. Mr. Lindsay was a member of First Baptist Church of Avon Park, 40-year member of Wakeman Masonic Lodge, Zenobia Shrine, Roche de Boeuf Eastern Star, Calumet Council and the Waterville American Legion.
He is survived by his daughters, Lindell (Robert) Henck, of Whitehouse, and Sue (Leo D.) Lisk, of Liberty Center; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne (Good); and brother, Kenneth.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 5 at Harmony Hall in Browning Masonic Community in Waterville, followed by a time of fellowship. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Browning Masonic Community.
Paul Dauterman
Paul E. Dauterman, age 81, of Walbridge and formerly of Toledo, died peacefully on Sunday, August 15.
Born in Detroit on December 22, 1928, to Donald and Bonnetta (Amos) Dauterman, he worked for GM Powertrain in Toledo for 24 years, retiring in 1993. He also worked as a swing driver for Waste Management of Northwest Ohio for eight years. He enjoyed the simple things in life: spending time with his family, playing cards, the lottery and watching westerns. He will be greatly missed by the family and friends who knew and loved him.
Mr. Dauterman was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 34 years, Gladys Dauterman, the mother of his children. Surviving are his wife, Nancy; son, Donald (Linda) Dauterman, of Toledo; daughters, Tracy (Emmett) Moore, of Wheat Ridge, Colo., Kelly (Jay) Wise, of Walbridge, and Patricia (Brian) Lindsey, of Toledo; brother, Kay (Janet) Dauterman; sister, Phyllis Coyer; and grandchildren, Andrea Bitner, Matthew and Eric Dauterman, Payton and Samantha Moore and Emily Lindsey. He also will be missed by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends and family were received on August 20 in the Wells Funeral Home in Waterville, where funeral services were held on August 21, followed by interment in Highland Memory Gardens. The family suggests contributions to the Dauterman family or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Marjorie Stuard
Marjorie Ruth (O’Dell) Stuard, age 70, of Springfield Township, passed away on Tuesday, August 17.
Mrs. Stuard worked at Miller’s Fireworks for more than 15 years, loved to bake and enjoyed cook-outs and family gatherings. Her hobbies included going to garage sales and flea markets and tending to her beautiful flower garden.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherry (Larry) Hagemann, of Grand Rapids; son, Jerry Stuard, Jr., of Toledo; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Maier and Darlene McLafferty; and brothers, Don, Kenny, Butch and Bob O’Dell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Stuard, Sr.; sisters, Lillian Stall, Lois Mitchel and Betty O’Dell; and parents, Forest and Marjorie (O’Dell) Stuard.
Friends were received on August 22 at the Reeb Funeral Home, where the funeral service took place on August 23, followed by interment in Springfield Township Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Marvin Vollmar
Marvin William Vollmar, age 82, of Waterville, died on Tuesday, August 17.
Born in Whitehouse on August 24, 1927, to Mur and Azalea (Barnes) Vollmar, he graduated from Whitehouse High School in 1945 and worked for Glenn Grafice and Son as an operating engineer, retiring in 1974. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Whitehouse, Ohio Operating Engineers for more than 50 years and Local 18.
Mr. Vollmar married Joyce Wagoner on February 6, 1954, in Whitehouse, OH. She survives, along with children, Carolyn Ward, of Liberty Center, Murr Vollmar, of Whitehouse, and Sharon (Donald) Dayton and William Vollmar, both of Liberty Center; grandchildren, David, Jason, James (Matilda) and Aaron Ward, Cassandra and Donald Dayton, Jr., and Ben, Robert and Joshua Vollmar; great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Flavia and Sara Ward; and sister, Elnora Dixon.
Friends and family were received on August 19 at Peinert Funeral Home in Whitehouse, where funeral services took place on August 20, followed by interment in Whitehouse Cemetery. The family requests memorial donations to the church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
Leota Neal
Leota M. Neal, age 58, of Bowling Green, passed away on Wednesday, August 18.
Born in Jellico, Tenn., to the late Joseph and Verna (Douglas) Fisher, she worked in the custodial department of Bowling Green State University and was also a cashier for Cut-Rate Tobacco in BG. Mrs. Neal was a member of the National Gardening Club and in her spare time loved to read, dance, watch NASCAR and cheer for Terry Labonte and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. She also loved gardening and sewing, especially making her daughter Angelic’s wedding dress. She loved her grandchildren and according to her family was a courageous and amazing mother.
Mrs. Neal is survived by her daughters, Margaret (John) Northcutt, of Weston, Ohio, Julie (Joe) Kleopfer, of Custar, and Angelic (Matt) Keller, of Holland; brothers, Ronald Fisher and Joseph, Jr.; grandchildren, Danielle, Jessica, Joey, Doug, Samera, Sammi, Austin, Elijah, Kaden, Donald and Declyn; one great-grandchild on the way; and sister-in-law, Laurie Fisher. She was preceded in death by her brother, Doug Fisher; and stepfather, Michael Madlinski.
Visitation was on August 24 in the Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home & Crematory in Bowling Green, where funeral services took place on August 25. Interment was in Union Hill Cemetery. Anna Buehrer
Anna A. Buehrer, age 86, passed away on Thursday, August 19.
Born in Stryker, Ohio, on May 3, 1924, to Harry and Meta Buehrer, she worked for more than 40 years at the former McCord Corporation in Wauseon, retiring in 1989. A longtime member of North Dover United Methodist Church, she enjoyed bowling, sewing and attending the various activities of her nephews, niece, great-nephews and great-nieces. She was an avid traveler, taking annual trips to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Wisconsin and North Carolina to be with family and friends. She will always be remembered for her quiet ways and never speaking an unkind word to anyone.
Surviving are her sister, Nola Buehrer, of Wauseon; brother, Huber (Charline) Buehrer, of Maumee; nephews, Scott (Suzanne), Kent, Brent (Michelle), Brett (Dana) and Trent (Janice) Buehrer; niece, Cynthia (Gregory) Smith; and great-nephews and nieces, Brandon, Ashley and Lindsey Smith, Grant, Drew and Cate Buehrer, Madeline, Graeme and Charlotte Buehrer and Adam and Jacob Buehrer. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Family and friends were received on August 22 and 23 at North Dover United Methodist Church in Wauseon. Funeral services took place on August 23 at North Dover United Methodist Church, followed by interment in Pettisville Cemetery. Michael Carone
Michael A. Carone, age 79, passed away on Friday, August 20, in Lorain after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.
Born in Toledo on October 8, 1930, to Lorenzo and Vincenza (Ancona) Carone, he was a 1949 graduate of Macomber High School and a 1962 graduate of The University of Toledo with a degree in foreign trade and transportation. During the Korean War, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, achieving the rank of sergeant and earning the Navy Commendation, Good Conduct, National Defense, Korean Service and Korean Presidential Medals. Mr. Carone worked in several supervisory positions for the Nickel Plate (Norfolk and Western) Railroad in Indiana and Ohio. From 1972 to 2007, he was a successful sales consultant for Liberty Auto Group in Vermilion, Ohio. He was a life member of the Marine Corps League of Lorain, AMVETS Post 22, VFW Post 7579 and American Legion Post397, all of Vermilion.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Marie (Pestolis) Carone; children, Leslie Carone, of Miami Beach, Linda Carone, of Vermilion, and Larry (Cindy) Carone, of Avon Lake; grandchildren, Anna and Elena Carone; sister, Grace (Carl) Bialorucki; brothers, Vincent (Pixie) Carone, of Maumee, and Carlo (Vicki) Carone; stepbrothers, Nicola (Vanda), Guy (Kris) and Frank (Marisa) Ruggiero; and stepsister Grace (Carlo) Fanelli, all of Maumee.
Friends were received on August 22 at the Riddle Funeral Home in Vermilion and on August 23 at Immaculate Conception Parish in Toledo, followed by a Mass of Christian burial. Interment followed in Toledo Memorial Park, with the Lucas County Veterans conducting military honors. Barbara Zoltanski
Barbara Finsel Zoltanski, age 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 20.
Born in Fostoria in 1929 to Ralph and Helen (Hoffbauer) Finsel, she graduated from Springs College for Women in Columbus with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1952. Mrs. Zoltanski taught first grade in one of the last remaining four-room schoolhouses in rural Ohio. Throughout the course of her life, she honored her family heritage of service through international and local concerns, with a particular interest in Guatemala. She welcomed international students and Asian educators to her family home and helped establish the first federally-funded hot lunch program at her community elementary school, publicly provided transportation for faith-based schools in Lucas County and the preservation of Maumee Valley historic structures targeted by expanding industry.
Deeply concerned with the needs of Toledo central city children, where she was a volunteer teacher, Mrs. Zoltanski sought means and opportunities to offer direct comfort and nutrition to others, serving meals at the St. Francis soup kitchen and driving a door-to-door bread route delivering to families in need. An accomplished pianist, she routinely visited the elderly, sick and local nursing homes to play the piano and read poetry. A lifelong student of American history, particularly the Civil War and the Maumee River Valley, Mrs. Zoltanski shared her knowledge via a weekly newspaper column in the Maumee Herald. She was affiliated with the Ohio Dominican University Alumni Association, the League of Women Voters, the American Association of University Women, Foundation for Life, Heartbeat of Toledo and the Auxiliary of the Little Sisters of the Poor.
Mrs. Zoltanski was a humble and vibrant example of faith, service and education to her 10 children, all of whom are equally committed to public service through professions in medicine, teaching, government, law, engineering, finance, historic preservation and nutrition. Her cherished son, Mark Francis, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her devoted husband and partner of 56 years, Edward Zoltanski; children, Teresa Zoltanski, Esq., Cecilia Ross, Mary DeWitt, Thomas, Stephen, Peter, Helen and Monica Zoltanski, Esq., and Joan Karabogias, M.D.; her treasured grandchildren; and siblings, Mildred Naderer, Mary Gabel and Charles Finsel. She was predeceased by her siblings, Ursula Maciejewski, Catherine Knopp and Norman Finsel.
Friends were received on August 24 and 25 at the Sujkowski Funeral Home of Rossford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 26 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maumee. Louisa Lubinski
Louisa “Dolly” Lubinski, age 70, of Holland, died on Saturday, August 21.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Raymond Lubinski; daughters, Liz Lubinski, Annette (John) Crews, Chris (Mike) Looney and Michelle (Craig) Kuhnle; son, Joseph Lubinski; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Patricia Randolph
Patricia S. (Healy) Randolph, age 84, of Toledo, passed away on Saturday, August 21, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Detroit on May 18, 1926, to Leonard and Helen (Douglas) Healy, she attended the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and graduated from Manhattanville College in New York. She was married to her husband John, also from Detroit, until his death in 1990. They moved in the early 1960s to Toledo. Mrs. Randolph was devoted to the underprivileged, particularly young children, and was a founding member of the Toledo Head Start Program, for which she worked for 36 years. She was a past trustee for Friendly Center, an active member of the Sacred Heart Alumni Association in Toledo and volunteered for numerous other organizations. Her love for family and friends and her Irish heritage were always apparent, particularly on St. Patrick’s Day.
Mrs. Randolph enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s events and was extremely proud of all their accomplishments. Although presented with many health challenges in her last few years, she never complained and always rallied back. Her summer trips to Port Huron, Mich., Sacred Heart Alumni reunions, a trip to Ireland with her sisters, Helen and Mil, and a Caribbean cruise with them and her daughter Cindy have provided stories that will be cherished forever. A devout Catholic, she was a past parishioner at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns and Gesu Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Randolph; son, Stephen Randolph; sister, Milmary Mathews; and brother, Leonard (Larry) Healy, Jr. She is survived by her children, Christine (Dr. John) Carroll, of Toledo, John (Kathy) Randolph, Jr., of Virginia Beach, Karen (Jerry) Karsten, of Maumee, Susan (William) Logie, of Toledo, and Cynthia Randolph, of Albuquerque, N.M.; grandchildren, John, Patrick, Katie, Michael, Rebecca, John W III, Jim, Jodi, Jason, Jeremy and Megan; six great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Moorhead; brother, Timothy Healy; sister-in-law, Mary Healy; and many special nieces, nephews and friends.
Friends will be received from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 26 at the Coyle Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., and from noon until the Funeral Mass at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 27 at Gesu Church. Interment will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Detroit at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 28. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sunset House or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
Christopher Backus
Christopher Robin Backus, age 54, of Jackson, Mich., passed away on Sunday, August 22.
The son of Walter and Eileen Backus, he was born on April 29, 1956 in Portsmouth, Va. He graduated from Maumee High School, Campbell University in North Carolina and Spring Arbor University, with a master’s degree in business. He worked at T.A. Wilson Academy, was a football coach at Parkside High School for many years and served on the Veterans Council in Jackson. A 20-year veteran of the U.S. Maine Corps, he retired as a gunnery sergeant and was a past commander of American Legion Post 29. Mr. Backus volunteered in many Jackson Public High School programs, was a member of First United Methodist Church and volunteered in many Youth Mission trips. A devoted husband, father and Ohio State fan, he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Julie Backus; children, Sarah, Christopher (Elsa) and Katie Backus; mother; brothers, Richard (Lynn), Greg (Jenna) and Keith (Kelly) Backus; sister, Deneen Parker-Backus; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and infant brother, Tommy.
A celebration of life took place on August 25 at First United Methodist Church in Jackson, followed by interment in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Jackson High School Football Program, 544 Wildwood Ave., Jackson, MI 49201.
Hal Borton
Hal C. Borton, age 82, of Holland, passed away on Sunday, August 22.
Born in Fulton County, Ohio, on March 12, 1928, to Dale and Tina (Shaffer) Borton, he married Joan Windisch in Angola, Ind., on September 4, 1965, and she preceded him in death on December 19, 2008. A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Borton worked as a truck driver for M & M Restaurant Supply for more than 25 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 646, Robinson Locke Lodge 659 F & AM. and was a chief steward for M & M Restaurant Supply. He and his wife loved to travel with their two dogs, especially to Florida, where they made many treasured friends.
Surviving are his children, Stanley Borton, Linda (Ed) Gabler, Kelly Borton and Jodi Sheets; grandchildren, Kristie and Melissa Borton and Derek Gabler; and sister, Phyllis (Harold) Hulbert. He was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Mercer.
In keeping with Mr. Borton’s wishes, there will be no visitation and burial will be private. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a charity of the donor’s choice.
Bill Robertson
Bill Robertson, age 92, of Toledo, passed away on Sunday, August 22.
Born in Big Beaver, Mich., on October 9, 1917, to William and Maude (McCormick) Robertson, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 4th division in the 20th Field Artillery, and was employed at L.O.F. Thermopane. Mr. Robertson lived his life for his wife and family. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, TKB softball, woodworking and home improvements. He was a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his daughter, Tracy (Bud) Thomson; grandchildren, Jennifer (Greg) Guzman, Jason and Matthew Robertson and Jamie, Kellie and Leslie Thomson; and great-grandchildren, Miranda and Caiden. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Marilyn; son, Scott Robertson; daughter in-law, Patricia Robertson; and sisters, Velva May and Eva Faye.
Friends may call from 2:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 26 at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home in Maumee, where funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 27.
