William Asendorf
William A. “Bill” Asendorf, age 65, of Perrysburg, passed away on Monday, April 21, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Bellefonte, Pa., on December 3, 1942, to Rev. Albert and Ruth (Cavanaugh) Asendorf, he graduated from Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa., and was director of admissions at that institution. He then did work in human resources for Owens Corning Fiberglas in Anderson, S.C., and Toledo; Rudolph Libbe, Inc., S & R Equipment and Hickory Farms in the greater Toledo area; and Robinair in Montpelier. Continuing as a consultant in the human resources field, he worked with people who were displaced from their jobs and helped them find other employment.
Mr. Asendorf then began a painting business and was known by many as “Painterman.” Treating all of the homes, businesses and churches as if they were his own, he was a perfectionist in his painting with great attention to detail. His workers, many of them young, took on his attention to detail and looked at each job as a beautiful creation from start to finish. He also was a master gardener and some of his volunteer work is evident in the trees and shrubs planted at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He had a connection with the elderly, helping them with repair on their homes and taking meals to the shut-ins of his church. His special connection with children and young adults was evident with the many drawings that were sent to him during his illness. He was one of the kindest and most compassionate people anyone could have ever known. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Maumee.
Surviving are his loving wife of 31 years, Joanie (McCrackin) Asendorf; daughter, Robyn (Chris) Ward of Cumming, Ga.; twin grandsons, Ben and Ryan; brother, Donald (Betty) Asendorf; sister, Betty Patton; sister-in-law, Barbara (Terry) Boyce; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog Cooper and cat Emily. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Gilbert Patton.
Friends and family will be received at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant, St. in Maumee, on Friday, May 16, from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 310 Elizabeth St., Maumee, on Saturday, May 17, at 10:00 a.m., with the Rev.
