Josina Lott Looking For Lawn Games Volunteers

Josina Lott Residential and Community Services is seeking volunteers to assist with its seventh annual lawn games on Saturday, July 19 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at its campus at 120 S. Holland-Sylvania Rd. Volunteers will facilitate events and participate on teams with adults with mental retardation and developmental disabilities. Competition will include an obstacle course, water splash, bocce ball, mini golf and more. An awards ceremony and picnic will follow. To volunteer, call Karen Weisman at (419) 866-9013.

Delivery Volunteers Needed For Mobile Meals

Mobile Meals is looking for volunteers to contribute their lunchtime to deliver meals in the south Toledo area. The pick-up sites are St. Luke’s Hospital and Lott Industries on Hill Avenue. Mobile Meals of Toledo is a nonprofit organization that provides home-delivered meals to the elderly, ill, disabled and homebound in the Toledo area. Volunteers allow Mobile Meals to provide clients with nutritious meals and to assist them in maintaining their independence. For information, call (419) 255-7806 or visit www.mobilemeals.org.

Red Cross Seeks Assistance For Fire Victims

The American Red Cross is accepting financial donations on behalf of the families affected by the July 5 fire at the Hunter’s Ridge apartments in Toledo. The local chapter has provided services, including clothing, food and shelter, to 92 adults and 45 children.

To donate money online, go to www.redcrosstoledo.org, or mail your donation to Greater Toledo Area Chapter, P.O. Box 595, Toledo, Ohio 43697 and mark Hunter’s Ridge Apartments on your check.

Those who need assistance as a result of the fire should visit the American Red Cross office at 3100 W. Central Ave., 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, or call (419) 329-6060 to receive services 24 hours a day.

Panera Bread Collecting Children’s Books

The nine Panera Bread locations in the Toledo area are accepting donations of new or gently used children’s books for the ongoing “Let’s Read: You and Me” book drive.

Co-sponsored by United Way of Greater Toledo, NBC 24, Panera Bread, Lucas County Family Council and Garden Smiles, the drive is part of the United Way’s Success by 6 program that focuses on early literacy. The program is geared toward teaching young children and their caregivers the importance of reading. Books will be distributed to children in the community.

Backpack, School Supply Donations Collected

The Owens Community College Alumni Association is conducting its annual backpack and school supply drive to benefit needy area children. Items requested include new or gently used backpacks, as well as new crayons, markers, bottles of glue, glue sticks, colored pencils, pencils, erasers, school boxes, pocket folders, marbled cover composition books and tissues. Donations may be dropped off throughout the summer at the alumni relations office on the Owens campus, Books-a-Million in Perrysburg or Great Lakes Credit Union branches.
