Safe Sitter Classes Offered At St. Luke’s Hospital

St. Luke’s Hospital will offer its Safe Sitter babysitting classes for boys and girls ages 11 to 13 on Friday, July 18 and Thursday, August 7. Taught by nurses, the class covers safe and nurturing childcare techniques, behavior management skills and appropriate responses to medical emergencies. The class costs $35.00 and includes lunch and snacks. Space is limited and early registration is recommended. Reservations may be made for groups of six or more, such as Girl Scout troops or 4-H clubs. Call (419) 897-8484.

Lego Contest Announced At Local Libraries

The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library will host a Lego building contest for third- through fifth-graders. Students are asked to bring their own Legos to create an imaginary or realistic bug of their own design. Winners at each branch will advance to the final competition at the children’s library at the Main Library on Thursday, July 26.

Branch competitions take place on Tuesday, July 15 at 2:00 p.m. at the Maumee Branch and Wednesday, July 16 at 2:00 p.m. at the Waterville Branch. For more information, call (419) 259-5207 or visit www.toledolibrary.org.

Maumee Tackle Hosts Youth Fishing Derby

Maumee Tackle is hosting a free fishing derby for children through age 14 on Sunday, July 13 from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Children will be able to catch and release large-mouth bass, crappie, catfish and bluegill from a 45-year-old private pond at 7750 Dutch Rd. in Waterville. Bait will not be provided. The Quilt Foundry Sets Summer Kids’ Quilt Camp

The Quilt Foundry, 234 W. Wayne St., Maumee, will host Kids’ Quilt Camps during the weeks of July 14, July 28 and August 11. Kids ages 9-13 will make and finish an approximately 40-by-60-inch quilt during the class. Each will choose fabric from the Quilt Foundry’s fabric collection and learn to cut the fabric with a rotary cutter, machine-stitch it into a selected pattern and press the seams. The quilt project is completed by adding batting and tying. Classes meet from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The cost is $100 and includes the fabric, batting and instruction. To register, call (419) 893-5703.

Levis Commons Plans Splash Bash Program

The Town Center at Levis Commons will host Splash Bash on Saturday, July 19 from noon to 4:00 p.m. Daytime activities include a water show, giant sandbox, children’s art area, and an interactive music and movement show with Kindermusik. Admission is free to ages 12 and under and $5.00 for all others, with proceeds benefiting the Perrysburg Area Arts Council.

Radio-Controlled Car Races Planned In Holland

HobbyTownUSA in Holland will host a radio-control autocross on the third Saturday of every month through October in the front parking lot at Spring Meadows Shopping Center. Driving ability is assessed in three different tests. Each day the top driver for each class will receive a certificate and a $5.00 “Hobbybucks” coupon. At the end of the season, a grand prize will be awarded for the overall first-, second- and third-place winners.

The fee is $3.00 per driver, with an additional $2.00 for use of multiple cars. Scheduled dates for these competitions are July 19, August 16, September 20 and October 18, weather permitting. Starting time is 4:00 p.m. More information is available at HobbyTownUSA; call (419) 867-9490.

Summer Camp Offered For Kids With Asthma

Camp Superkids, a regional overnight summer camp for children with asthma, is accepting registration. The camp will take place July 21-26 at the Center for Courageous Kids, located in Scottsville, Ky., southeast of Bowling Green.

The camp, for kids age 7-13 with moderate to severe asthma, is staffed by trained medical professionals and combines traditional camp activities with asthma education. To sign up or for more information, call (800) 586-4872 or go to www.kylung.org.

Muddy’s Buddies Club Accepts 2008 Memberships

The Toledo Mud Hens and McDonald’s are offering the Muddy’s Buddies Kids Club for children ages 12 and under. The free membership includes up to three free hamburger Happy Meals, souvenir Thunderstix, Swamp Shop discounts, a chance to run the bases and participate in a baseball clinic, and more. Adventure Camps Set In Monclova And Holland
