Raymond Phillips, Sr.
Raymond L. Phillips, Sr., age 89, of Maumee, passed away on Monday, September 4. Born in Toledo on December 11, 1927 to Vasile and Beulah (Oliver) Phillips, he graduated from Libbey High School and was a U.S. Army veteran serving his country during the Korean War. Mr. Phillips was employed at Standard Oil Company for many years and later became an ironworker for Local 55. His memberships included Bethel Lutheran Church in Toledo, where he was a longtime member who served in many capacities; Damascus-Collingwood Masonic Lodge 643 F&AM, Scottish Rite; Zenobia Shrine; Shriners Arab Patrol. And the Maumee Elks. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Joanna, spending time with his family, playing cards and socializing with his Shriner and Mason friends. Mr. Phillips is survived by his sons, Raymond, Jr. and Jeff (Linda); daughter-in-law, Linda Phillips; grandchildren, Michelle, Lauren, Alison, Brookelyn and Lucas; great-grandchildren, Travis, Aubrey, Blake and Lena; brother, Paul (Dee) Phillips; and sister-in-law, Joyce Berndt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Joanna; and son, Mike Phillips. Funeral services were conducted on September 9 at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home in Maumee, followed by military services.
