John Perrin

John C. Perrin, age 71, of Maumee, passed away on Saturday, May 5.

Born on October 18, 1946 to John and Gertrude (Hayes) Perrin, he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Maumee Eagles, the Toledo Sailing Club and the Maumee American Legion Post 320, of which he was a past commander. Mr. Perrin was employed with Highland Appliance and Sears for several years before retiring.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Dena (William) Baker-Becker, of Maumee; grandson, Devon Becker; granddaughters, Delaney and Kegan Becker; sisters, Peggie (Bob) Osborn and Susan Barber; brother, Jake (Rachel) Perrin; and stepchildren, Brandy (Paul) Maples and Fred Myers. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Susan Kramer; parents; and brothers, Mark and David.

A celebration of life will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 18 at the Maumee American Legion, to which memorial contributions may be made.

Betty Pierce

Betty J. Pierce, age 91, of Westfield, Ind., and formerly of Maumee, passed away on Monday, May 7, her 91st birthday.

Born in Toledo to Fred and Hazel Hutchinson, she enjoyed gardening and bird watching. The widow of Robert Pierce, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Joan Robinson; and brother, Robert Hutchinson. Surviving are her children, Cindy (Jim) Keivel and Tom (Kelly) Pierce; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services took place on May 10 in Riverside Cemetery in Maumee.

Nancy Scharlow

Nancy Scharlow, age 78, of Toledo, passed away on Thursday, May 10 in the Hospice of Northwest Ohio inpatient center after a courageous two-year battle with colon cancer.

Born in Toledo on March 8, 1940 to Hugh and Betty (Hinman) Ryle, she was a member of the Maumee Eagles, VFW and Maumee Senior Center. Nancy was a competitive canasta, backgammon and euchre player. In 2009, she won a Gold Medal for Senior Olympics 50+ playing backgammon. She loved to socialize at Nick’s Cafe, Cracker Barrel, McDonald’s, Wendy’s and Dino’s (before they kicked her out – twice!).

Preceded in death by her parents and brother, Patrick Ryle, she is survived by her loving children, James, Robbin (Randy) Wilcox, Michael (Sandy), Kenneth, Steven (Laura) and Darlene (Mark) Jaeger; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Linda Durbin and Vickie Sprague.

Friends and family were received on May 14 at the Coyle Funeral Home, where funeral services were conducted on May 15, followed by interment in Toledo Memorial Park. Services were officiated by Rev. Patrick Rohen, Captain, U.S.A. (Retired).

Thomas Coburn

Thomas “Tom” Coburn, age 64, passed away at his Maumee residence on Saturday, May 12.

Born in Toledo on February 4, 1954 to Bruce and Elizabeth (Porter) Coburn, he enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, motorcycles, weekly breakfasts with friends, home projects, exercising, spending time outside, American Pickers and browsing antique stores.

Mr. Coburn is survived by his daughters, Lindsay (James) Fisher and Cortney (Neil) Schwab; grandchildren, Parker, James, Will, Wyatt and Julia; brother, Jim (Linda) Coburn; sister, Elizabeth Coburn-Wells; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha (Leite) Coburn; parents, Bruce and Elizabeth; and brother, John Coburn. 

Friends and family will be received from 9:00 until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 19 at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home in Maumee, where a memorial service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. 

Roger Yount

Roger C. Yount, age 71, of Maumee, and formerly of Sandusky, passed away on May 12. He was born in Monroe, Mich., on December 21, 1946 to Carroll Reece and Donna Jean (Leming) Yount.

Roger proudly enlisted at the age of 17 into the Air Force during the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his loving wife, Deb; children, Dawn; Jeremy J. (Amanda); Daniel (Kristy), and Erik (Candice); grandchildren, Daniel; Jayson; Jonny; Missy Brynn; and Jack; sisters, Pat Knox; Christine (Billy) Roberts; brother, Jason (Neely) and eight nieces and nephews.

Services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd., Perrysburg, Ohio 43551. Online condolences may be shared at toledocremation.com.
