BY ANDY ROWER | MIRROR SPORTS — An impressive Northview boys basketball team effort led to a 77-40 win over visiting Maumee on Dec-ember 22. The game’s outcome was never in much doubt, as senior center Colton Snow and junior guard Sam Clear combined for 15 quick points and five rebounds while leading the Wildcats to an quick 22-6 lead after just a quarter of play. The Panthers did respond with a strong second stanza in which Maumee senior guards Collin McGann and Ben Pacer, classmate and forward Jacob Richardson, junior forward Sam LaChapelle and sophomore guard David Walker managed to outscore Clear and Snow 13-5, but eight points is as close as things got. From there, Clear, senior guard Reece Lazar and junior guard Luke Pawlak came out of halftime to connect on four consecutive Northview 3-pointers, and Lazar, Snow and junior guard Alek West followed that with five more Wildcats points. Outside of a strong fourth quarter by sophomore center Garret White, things didn’t get much brighter for Maumee as the game wound down. Clear, Lazar and Snow led Northview in increasing its lead to 30 by the end of the third and Lazar, West and senior forward Colin McIntyre helped the Wildcats push that lead to 40 points before the Panthers’ Walker connected on a trey at the final buzzer. With West running Northview’s point, the Wildcats committed just eight turnovers through 32:00. West finished with six points, eight assists, four rebounds and three steals. Perhaps even more impressive was the fact that Clear, Lazar, Pawlak, senior guard Dylan Bush and sophomore guard Grant Hartnett combined for 11 treys – all while Northview converted 42 percent of its shots from the field. Clear racked up 21 points, three assists, three boards and three steals, Lazar posted 12 points, five assists, three rebounds and three steals and Hartnett had six points and three boards. The Wildcats also outrebounded Maumee 39-32, with Snow pulling down an amazing 19 of those boards. The 6-foot-7 force also scored 14 points and recorded both an assist and a steal. Northview improved to 5-0 with the win. Pacer led the Panthers with 11 points and five rebounds and McGann netted 10 more points. Additionally, Richardson (six rebounds) and Walker (three rebounds, two assists) scored six more points each, White contributed five points and six boards, LaChapelle had two points and six rebounds and senior forwards Blake Hazard and Luis Perez, junior forward Andy Burkhart and junior guard Jared Jensen combined for a final five Maumee rebounds and a steal, despite the loss. Maumee 55, Lake 53 Six days later, the Panthers improved to 2-5 with a 55-53 win over visiting Lake. Pacer again led Maumee with 18 points and Walker added 11 more. White next totaled eight points, 11 boards and three blocks, Perez had seven points and seven rebounds, Hazard (five rebounds) and Richardson (three rebounds) each netted another four points and McGann finished with two points and two boards.
