BY ANDY ROWER | MIRROR SPORTS — After capturing its first win of the season in a game against Whitmer back on January 6 at the Ice House, Maumee’s hockey team improved to 3-9 with a second win over the Panthers on January 19 and a 10-0 shutout victory over Fremont Ross two nights later. Maumee jumped out to an instant 5-0 lead over the Little Giants at Fremont. Sophomore Zach Marvin and freshman Kenny Poupard assisted on a goal by senior Max Jensen just 3:32 into the contest and freshman Brett Birt, Jensen and Marvin followed with unassisted scores. Marvin added his second goal on another Poupard assist before the opening period ended, but the Panthers offense was far from finished. Now leading Fremont Ross 7-0, Zach Birt ended the frame with his second goal after receiving assists from Marvin and senior Caleb Reed-Simms.
