Maumee High School alumni John DuVall and Jeffrey Albright receive the award for Outstanding Production at the recent AACT Region III Fest in Kokomo, Ind.

Actors Collaborative Toledo is proud to announce that its production of A Life by Adam Bock has won the honor of performing at AACTFest 2019, the National Community Theatre Festival, in Gettys-burg, Pa., held on June 18-22.

The journey to the national festival began in September 2018, when the production won the Ohio Community Theatre Association’s OCTA Rocks! Festival in Columbus. The production then moved on to Kokomo, Ind., for the Region III AACTFest 2019 Festival in April. AACT Region III includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.

In addition to winning the Region III festival, the production was honored with Festival Adjudicator Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role (John DuVall).

Actors Collaborative Toledo will present A Life at AACTFest 2019 on Wednesday, June 19 at 7:00 p.m. in Gettysburg’s Majestic Theater.

Jeffrey Albright (Maumee High School ’77), who directed the production, said, “The journey actually began for us in April 2018, when we produced A Life in the Underground Theatre at The Collingwood Arts Center. We then took an excerpt from the play to the Northwest Ohio OCTA Regional Festival at Owens Community College in June of 2018. At that festival, we were selected as one of the theaters to represent Northwest Ohio at OCTA Rocks.”

“This is the first time that Actors Collaborative Toledo competed in a festival cycle,” Albright continued, “and we are truly honored to have received such great recognition. We are the first theater from Northwest Ohio to be invited to perform at AACTFest.”

He added, “John DuVall (Maumee High School ’85) and I have worked together for many years and I could not be happier than to be sharing this experience with him.”

Information about other upcoming ACT events is available at its website at www.act419.org.

AACTFest 2019 is the culmination of a two-year cycle of state and regional theater AACT festivals and will feature 12 community theater productions from across the United States and the U.S. military services overseas that received top honors in their respective state and regional festivals. These winners represent the best community theater America has to offer.

Performances will start on Tuesday, June 18, in the Majestic Theater and additional activities will be offered in the adjacent Gettysburg Hotel on Lincoln Square in downtown Gettysburg.

The AACTFest 2019 National Theatre Festival includes theater management and youth conferences, a youth theater festival, educational workshops, top vendor displays, design and monologue competitions, social events, sightseeing and networking opportunities, all ending with a festival awards presentation.

AACTFest is a celebration of theater and a learning experience for those who take part. Registration, schedule and more information is available at www.aact.org/19.
