Maumee Golfers Split With Napoleon And Perrysburg

BY ANDY ROWER | MIRROR SPORTS — Maumee’s golf team closed out its regular season in high fashion on September 14, when the Panthers tied their third-best score of the season during a 173-197 victory over Napoleon at Heather Downs Country Club. Senior Dmitri Hohenbrink led the way with a nine-hole score of 39 – good enough for medalist honors. Classmate Trent Graham followed with a 42 and fellow senior Ben Pacer and junior Quinn Deitering rounded out team scoring with twin 46s. Senior Nick Korsog also competed for Maumee on the day, finishing with a score of 55. The Panthers shot a 166 against Swanton back on August 15 and later turned in a 168 during a loss to Northview on August 30. Maumee’s other 173 came during a loss to St. Francis on August 23. Perrysburg 178, MHS 186 A day earlier, the Panthers suffered an eight-stroke loss to the Yellow Jackets at Belmont Country Club. Gavin Rogers paced Perrysburg with a 41, Carson Flynn added a 44 and Luke Gordon shot a 46. Three more Yellow Jackets golfers – Matt Everly, Tyler Stull and Nick Mondora – finished with identical 47s. Despite the loss, Maumee’s Hohenbrink again earned medalist honors with a 38. Pacer next turned in a 47, Graham shot a 49 and Deitering closed out team scoring at 52. Korsog’s score of 59 went unused. The Panthers will next enter the Northern Lakes League tournament having finished ahead of 16 other teams, while going 2-5 in conference play. Maumee has averaged a team score of 363 in its quintet of 18-hole contests this year. Hohenbrink has led all individual Panthers golfers by averaging 76.8 in those matches. Graham has next averaged 88.8 and is followed by Pacer (89.6), Korsog (99.3), Deitering (103.3) and senior Evan McConaughey (110.3).
