The Maumee Fire Division hosted the sixth annual Breakfast With Santa on Saturday. Over 700 people stopped by the station on Illinois Avenue to enjoy pancakes, sausage and orange juice. Children visited with Santa and many took advantage of the opportunity to climb up into the fire trucks that were parked in the station. Paramedic and firefighter, P.J. Fournier, who organized the event, said over 100 pounds of pancake mix and over 140 pounds of sausage were donated to the fire division for the event. Meijer donated $500 in cash, and Costco, Gordon and Kroger each donated $50.00. The businesses that gave food include Smucker’s Restaurant, Charlie’s, Tim Hortons, Sam’s Diner, Café Marie, Cracker Barrel, Star Diner, Dino’s Café, Fairfield Inn, Country Inn, Homewood Suites and Residence Inn. Other contributors include the city of Maumee, Maumee Fire Association, VIP Photo Booth of Toledo and Super 8. The event also featured a 50/50 raffle and several gift baskets were raffled off. At least 20 firefighters volunteer to help with the event, preparing and serving the food, setting up, cleaning up and selling tickets. Proceeds benefited the International Association of Firefighters Charitable Foundation, which supports several causes, including disaster relief, a burn fund, scholarships and health and safety education, said paramedic Dawn Sniadicki. “We couldn’t believe how successful this was the first year, and now we’ve probably doubled or more,” she said.
