BY NANCY GAGNET | MIRROR REPORTER — Bonita Bead Boutique has found a new home. The jewelry repair and specialty bead shop moved on June 1 from uptown Maumee to a strip center on Ford Street in Maumee, where Jimmy John’s, Allure Spa and Fast Signs are also housed. Previously, the store was located at 215 Conant St. Although it was a monumental task, with good planning the move went well and store owners Ann and Anita Tristan were able to get the business up and running in the new space without any problems. An open house took place in late June. “When people come into our boutique they’re standing around beads from all over the world,” said Ann. “Our new place is our new gem, and it was important for us to give our guests an experience and a cheer when they leave.” Set up very much like the store in uptown Maumee, Bonita Bead carries a huge assortment of both loose and string beads, including Czech glass and Lucite beads from Germany, as well as seed beads, sea glass, crystal glass, pearls and higher-grade gemstones. The new store offers a bead bar for designing and creating jewelry. “We have also added new inventory for this season where you will find seashells, coconut, sea glass, wood and new jewelry,” Ann said. The store also carries copper metal beads, pewter and gunmetal, charms and one-of-a-kind pieces by award-winning jewelry artist Susan Matych-Hager. In addition to selling beads, the store also provides jewelry repair and watch repair services. Beading therapy is also offered, along with ladies’ nights out. “We’re a great place for team-building,” Ann said. Jewelry-making classes are also offered by appointment, with regular classes starting again in late August. “We really want to thank the residents of Maumee for the support they have given us and we want to let them know that we’re still here for all of their jewelry needs,” Ann said. Bonita Bead Boutique, 1470 Ford St., is open from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Fridays; 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays and closed on Sundays.
