BY JOEL SENSING | MIRROR SPORTS — Anthony Wayne senior Tanner Wixey was named a 2017 Brine National High School Lacrosse All-American and was set to play in the National Lacrosse Classic this week. The event was scheduled to run during July 18-21 at the River City Sportsplex in Richmond, Va. Wixey, the son of Bruce and Rachel Wixey, was the leading scorer for the Generals in the 2017 spring season. “I’ve always wanted to play on a ‘super team’ like I will be with Team Ohio, but never really saw myself getting there, so it was really cool,” Wixey said prior to leaving for the event. “This is an important accomplishment to me because it means that others can see that I’m able to play at the next level with top players,” he continued. “From this experience I hope to make friends, further progress my skills and get exposure from college scouts to put Anthony Wayne on their radar when looking for recruits in the future.” The National Lacrosse Classic is a first-of-its-kind lacrosse experience created to provide athletes with a competitive process to benchmark their skills, qualify for selection to represent their state in a national tournament and gain recognition by competing in front of NCAA coaches.
